چکیده

AbstructFor operation planning before the cardiac plastic surgery, a cardiac surgeon needs to touch the cardiac muscle to know where thin and soft regions of the muscular wall due to myocardial infraction and dilate cardiomyopathy are located. Since the opportunity to palpate the cardiac muscle of the diseased heart is limited to the operative scene, young, inexperienced cardiac surgeons strongly desire cardiac muscle palpation training systems. As the cardiac surgeon has training more, his/her skills and the operative efficiency and safety for the left ventricle plastic operation improves more. The proposed training system for cardiac palpation consists of an MRI-based dynamic left ventricular image and a haptic-device for the elasticity transmission from/to the virtual heart. Mechanical properties of the cardiac muscles of animals are embedded in the virtual heart. Experimental results show that users can feel the reactional force from the virtual heart observing dynamic motion of the beating heart displayed on the interface window of the training system.

Development of a Training System for Cardiac Muscle Palpation

Touching the cardiac muscle is necessary to get mechanical conditions of muscle before cardiac surgery. The cardiac palpation is the only way to make surgical plans for left ventricular plastic surgery. The training system for cardiac palpation we have developed consists of a MRI-based virtual left ventricular image and a one-dimensional manipulator as a haptic device. Mechanical properties of ...

Robotic Catheters for Beating Heart Surgery

Compliant and flexible cardiac catheters provide direct access to the inside of the heart via the vascular system without requiring clinicians to stop the heart or open the chest. However, the fast motion of the intracardiac structures makes it difficult to modify and repair the cardiac tissue in a controlled and safe manner. In addition, rigid robotic tools for beating heart surgery require th...

The effect of resistance training on the expression of cardiac muscle growth regulator messenger genes in obese male rats

Background: Obesity is associated with cardiovascular disease, followed by pathological cardiac hypertrophy. However, physical activity (resistance training) plays a role in modulating some of the intracellular messenger pathways associated with the regulation of pathologic hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to investigate The effect of resistance training on the expression of cardiac muscl...
